Trevor and Vanessa Schofield
Born and bred in Yorkshire, in 2003 we were grabbed by the alpacas and bought four good looking boys with charming personalities, registering our herd as Longsides Alpacas. We showed them successfully at the National and Royal shows in 2004 and Vanessa began training as a BAS judge and stewarding at shows. Everyone told us we would be tempted by girls and sure enough we were. We now have a beautiful small herd of black, white, caramel, chestnut and multicoloured Huacayas. We have continued to enjoy regular show success including the best black fleece at the Royal Show 2006 and Reserve Champion Adult Female at the Northumberland County Show 2007.
In June of 2006 we helped set up the Yorkshire Alpaca Association for owners and breeders living in Yorkshire. Vanessa was elected to the Board of the British Alpaca Society in March 2007 and has become chair of the Education and Training committee, and is on the Fibre committee. She is fully trained as a BAS judge and also acts as an independent consultant helping new owners to select the right animals to fulfill their alpaca dreams.
