What a year! Following his successes in 2010 we decided to enter The Futurity for the first time and put Mr C's junior fleece in and Mr C himself into the Intermediate class. We were surprised and incredibly pleased when he went onto win the junior Brown fleece class and was then awarded Brown Fleece champion, beating champion stud males such as Bozedown Prometheus. In the ring he continued his winning streak winning the Intermediate Brown class and going onto to be awarded Reserve Brown Champion loosing out only by a whisker to a proven adult stud male. Below is a picture of him with all his awards. We have already had some interest in stud services for him and we are seeing how he develops to ensure he starts to work when he is ready.

Boyed on by our succes at the Hope show we entered Mr C's junior fleece into the Scottish National fleece show. A call after Cameron Holt finished judging advised us it would be worth us going along to the award dinner. A few hours up the motorway to Scotland later and after some great food and entertainment, we discovered he had not only won his class but he had been awarded Brown fleece champion! He seems to be going from strength to strength. Below is me receiving the Quaich he was awarded.
We were extremely pleased when our sister herds Mr C won the junior brown Huacaya fleece class at the Hope show, but even more pleased when he went on to become Brown colour champion! What a result for a junior, below is his winning junior fleece, it cut a very respectable weight of 1.2kg whilst also being fine and displaying advanced character traits.
We know of people who can provide a machine knitting and making service for alpaca breeders who have their own yarn and who want to get it made up into products. They are able to make nearly anything from hats, gloves, sweaters to throws etc, in all sizes from childrens to adults and XXL. If you want it made they can probably make it for you! ...[click here to find out more]
Made exclusively from Yorkshire alpaca fibre, we made a range of beautifully soft, lightweight socks. In five natural colours and sizes 4-7 and 8-11, these socks were sure to be a hit! They were available in five colours from Bitter Chocolate, rich Chestnut, soft Caramel, warm Biscuit to silky Cream. They were the perfect gift for anyone who likes warm, toasty feet... We entered five Burton Constable and Longsides Alpacas fleeces into the Hope Show, three out of six won their classes and two came second and the other one third! There was a healthy entry with over 60 fleeces being judged for individual quality by Tim Hey. We subsequently entered two of those five fleeces into the new Autumn National Show run by the Heart of England Group. Cameron Holt judged a stiff competition and we're very pleased to say we won the Brown Adult fleece class over 48 months, with a sub 24 micron fleece whose owner is holding her micron very well.
We joined forces with Burton Constable Alpacas to offer our customers a wider range of quality Huacaya alpacas and gifts made from the wonderful natural coloured fibre from our two herds. Visitors to the beautiful Burton Constable Hall in Hull can now see the girls enjoying the delightful setting of the Elizabethan manor house with it's famous Chinese room and fullsize skeleton of a whale washed up on a nearyby beach. With more fleece available to us we produced a wider range of quality gifts made in Yorkshire including peruvian style hats, beanie hats, gloves and scarves.
We put three fleeces into the Scottish National Show, and all three won their classes! Their was a healthy entry with over 75 fleeces being judged for individual quality and commercial value. Connie's 2007 fleece won the Adult Black fleece class, Daisy's 2007 fleece won the Brown Intermediate class, and BFG's fleece won the Black Junior class. We were especially pleased when BFGs fleece won the Best Black Fleece in the show! All three fleeces will now be made up into products, watch this site for details.
The latest addition to our herd weighed in at a healthy 8.4kg and was up and standing within half an hour. Japonica gave birth quickly and easily to her beautiful caramel boy, a great relief as he is her first baby. He's definitely found his feet, his favourite occupation is now charging around the paddock at top speed as the sun sets his aunties in hot pursuit! We've decided to call him Tedward the 7th because of his presence and style.

Entries at the Royal Fleece show were at their highest level this year with over 135 fleeces entered. Evenso Connie and BFG's 2007 fleeces came home with rosettes. Cameron Holt industry fleece expert from Australia judged the classes and the competition was very strong. In the adult black class Connie's fleece acheived a very respectable second to Conchatas Witness, a stud male imported from Australia, very good for a home breed alpaca. BFG's managed 5th in the black junior class, loosing out to those above her mainly due to impurities where she had enjoyed thorough rolling in the dust.

The weather again proved a challenge with heavy rain the day before and sunshine and showers on the day. Nevertheless we had a busy day helping with the inspection stewarding as well as showing our alpacas. 95 entries meant there was good competition and we were particularly pleased that our four alpacas each won their classes and Connie was awarded Reserve Champion in the Adult Female class. Our best show yet.

Much rain and wet weather meant soggy alpacas that struggled to dry out even once they were in the indoor pavilion at the show. As a result the alpacas didn’t look their best with fleeces a little flat and depressed. This was the first time Mike and Caroline Birch organised the show but they did an excellent job, keeping everyone happy. Acting as fleece stewards as well as showing kept us busy over the two days. With over 450 entries it was a tough show but we managed to come away with two second places, a third, and a sixth from five entries, a pretty respectable result.

Chocolat is Connie’s first baby. It was a text book birth taking just over 2 hours from start to finish with Chocolat up and leading the herd only an hour later. She is growing well and is already developing an amazingly long fleece. At first we thought she was dark brown but appears to be turning into a roan with a small amount of white fibre running evenly throughout her entire fleece. We can’t wait to spin it up into a beautiful heathered yarn.
